Andrew presented his work on coordination of multiple flexible electrical assets within a virtual power plant at the CIRED workshop in Helsinki.
The work used Newcastle Science Central as a case study during the work demonstrating that a virtual power plant can be used to provide the new Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR) service to National Grid. It was shown that effective coordination can either reduce the quantity of energy storage required thus reducing cost, or increase power ratings thus increasing revenue, relative to each asset operating independently without coordination.
